While I think ( and I say this because I experienced it ) that reciprocal link exchanges are still effective at some degree, I'd not advise anyone to overuse this practice plus anytime you decide to employ it, BE VERY CAREFUL where you link to and where from the link comes to your site. Be sure that the 2 sites linked are very close related.

Tell your client that maybe the site needs more content of superios quality in order to become attractive and people link to it without asking for a link back. Either ask him to write it, write it yourself is possible or hire someone to produce that content.

I felt I could have given a similar answer but I would not have anything to support my theory. How do you create link bait for an e-commerce site or the products part of a site?

Creating content of general interest regarding the subject and products your sell. For example, if you sell gold balls, write articles about famous golf players, new types of golf balls and their performances and so on.

Link baiting is not difficult. The problem is that people want to write a few ordinary articles and expect other people to link to them. Good look bait requries time and/or money. You need to think of what people would find useful (not ordinary articles) Not knowing what you site sells I can give no specific advice but in general

1) a useful application
2) a best on the web source of information on something
3) a reliable source of current information on something
4) a fun game
5) a very well catagorised group of useful links

The fact that you ask " How do you create link bait for an e-commerce site " sugessts that you should considr hiring someone to help you with this.

The biggest fish get caught with the best bait...

Well, I am aware that articles can create link bait and we are in the process of writing a few and putting them on the site. We are going to use a top 10's and some 101's. What I didnt think about is writing about professionals in the business as sensei mentioned. Sensei, you sparked a few more idea's, thanks.

I guess my question was more geared towards creating link bait for the products. You can only write so much in your descriptions but I guess you can write reviews about specific products you sell and link to them and related items from that article?
